Devil, darkness and so much fun. [English version below.]
Ostatnie tygodnie były pełne wrażeń i czasochłonnych aktywności - wystarczy wymienić przeprowadzkę i zwiedzanie niektórych zabytków Śląska. Skrawki urlopu udało mi się jednak zagospodarować na wlepianie oczu w ekran i tym sposobem ponadrabiałem nieco filmów i seriali. Z tej okazji powstał ten pierwszy po przerwie tekst, w którym prezentuję krótki przegląd netfliksowych nowości (no, prawie). Zapraszam do lektury.
Na pierwszy ogień idzie Lucyfer, sezon piąty A. O tym serialu najpierw Foxa, a teraz Netflixa zapewne większość z Was słyszała. Dla formalności: Władca Piekieł porzuca tę funkcję i zaczyna żyć w Los Angeles jako właściciel klubu nocnego, jednocześnie pomagając pewnej pani detektyw w rozwiązywaniu zagadek kryminalnych. Pierwsza połowa piątego sezonu tego serialu trafiła na Netflixa mniej więcej miesiąc temu i, prawdę powiedziawszy, trochę się jej obawiałem. Wynikało to z tego, że choć sam pomysł na serial jest naprawdę przedni, a i wykonanie (zwłaszcza obsada i muzyka) stało zawsze na wysokim poziomie, to zastanawiałem się jak długo można to ciągnąć. Czy dalsze losy diabła na Ziemi to nie będzie męczenie buły?
Okazało się, że zdecydowanie nie! Wydaje mi się, że zadecydowało o tym kilka rzeczy. Po pierwsze, w tym sezonie ponownie pozwolono sobie na zabawę konwencjami: mamy do czynienia między innymi z autoparodią, gdy bohaterowie serialu trafiają na plan serialu kręconego na podstawie ich losów, a także odcinek nawiązujący klimatem do stylu noir. Po drugie, dopilnowano, by zachowany był zdrowy balans między wątkami kryminalnymi i niebiańskimi - mam wrażenie, że w poprzednich sezonach momentami to kulało, a tutaj mamy porządny układ: w zasadzie w każdym odcinku widzimy przyzwoitą zagadkę do rozwiązania przez detektywów, ale jednocześnie dostajemy też coś, choćby scenę czy dwie, które rozbudowują świat nadprzyrodzony i trawiące go konflikty. Dzieje się to także przez dodanie kilku nowych, całkiem interesujących postaci. Nie będę zdradzać jakich, ale na pewno warto się o tym przekonać. Wreszcie ostatni czynnik, który moim zdaniem sprawia, że sezon 5A "Lucyfera" ogląda sie naprawdę dobrze: to konsekwentne rozbudowywanie postaci. O ile w przypadku głównych bohaterów, tj. Lucyfera i Chloe, odbywa się to w ograniczonym zakresie (choć całkiem znaczącym), tak jeśli chodzi o Maze, Ellę czy Lindę, dowiadujemy się o nich nowych rzeczy, widzimy ich nowe postawy i ogólnie zyskują one więcej czasu ekranowego. I bardzo dobrze!
Jeśli jesteście fanami "Lucyfera", pewnie widzieliście już sezon 5A. Jeżeli jednak jakimś cudem nie, nadróbcie czym prędzej. Moim zdaniem naprawdę warto. Jeśli natomiast nie oglądaliście jeszcze wcale tego serialu, spróbujcie. Raczej nie pożałujecie.
Kolejną rzeczą, którą ostatnio oglądaliśmy z żoną, jest pierwszy sezon Dark. Ponieważ przed nami jeszcze dwa kolejne, nie będę się zanadto rozpisywał. Powiem tylko, że to fantastyczna rzecz - jak "Stranger Things", tylko poważniej. Współczesne Niemcy, małe miasteczko, nad którym góruje elektrownia atomowa. Zaginięcia dzieci i... Dalsze tajemnicze zjawiska. Mrok, brud, niepokojący klimat, który sprawia, że niemal od razu chce się oglądać kolejny odcinek. Tu każdy ma coś za uszami lub przynajmniej sprawia takie wrażenie. Mało którego bohatera da się lubić, a jednak chce się śledzić ich losy.
Serial ten jest pełen zagadek i daje dużo miejsca dla snucia własnych teorii. Finał pierwszego sezonu przynosi trochę odpowiedzi, ale też chyba jeszcze więcej pytań, więc liczę na to, że już niebawem będę mógł się zabrać za sezon drugi. Każdemu polecam to samo!
Inną niedawno obejrzaną przez nas produkcją jest Enola Holmes. To akurat absolutna świeżynka (premiera miała miejsce dosłownie kilka dni temu), która klimatem wyraźnie odbiega od innych opisywanych dziś produkcji. Główna bohaterka to młodsza siostra Mycrofta i słynnego Sherlocka, która w dniu swoich szesnastych urodzin odkrywa, że jej matka zniknęła. Od tego momentu dziewczyna skupia się na poszukiwaniach ukochanej rodzicielki, jednocześnie uciekając przed pomysłami starszego brata na jej przyszłość i rozwiązując sprawę pewnego markiza.
To idealna, niegłupia rozrywka, bo i czegóż tu nie ma?! Jest i humor, i wartka akcja, brytyjski akcent, piękni ludzie i świetna obsada (Henry Cavill(!), ale też Sam Claflin, Helena Bonham Carter czy Millie Bobby Brown). Mimo wszystko przemycono tu też namiastkę poważniejszych wątków: emancypacji kobiet, rozważań o celu uświęcającym środki, a może nawet rozwarstwienia społecznego. Do tej mieszanki dochodzi jeszcze klimatyczny Londyn czy zwroty akcji (nieszczególnie zaskakujące, ale całkiem niezłe). W efekcie dostajemy feel good film dla każdego, który mimo to nie traci wcale na jakości. Warto obejrzeć go w jakiś wolny wieczór.
Po czymś pozytywnym powracamy do znacznie poważniejszych tematów, bowiem kolejną ostatnio obejrzaną nowością jest Diabeł wcielony, a w oryginale The Devil All The Time. Premiera tego filmu miała miejsce 16 września i jest to dramat z elementami thrilleru. Akcja rozgrywa się na przestrzeni około dwudziestu lat, głównie na terenie Wirginii Zachodniej i Ohio i opowiada o losach weterana II wojny światowej, Willarda, a potem jego syna, Arvina, a także otaczających ich ludziach. Wszyscy oni mierzą się z traumatycznymi zdarzeniami i próbują radzić sobie z nimi na różny sposób, w większości stopniowo się staczając. W obsadzie znaleźli się m. in. Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska i Robert Pattinson.
Jaki jest ten film? Mroczny. Niepokojący. Odsłania niektóre ciemne zakamarki ludzkiego umysłu. Ukazuje szaleństwo, rozpacz, desperację. Analizuje motywy, jakimi kieruje się ktoś popełniający zbrodnię. Jednocześnie robi to w hipnotyzujący sposób, który nie pozwala oderwać oczu od ekranu. Pozornie akcja toczy się powoli, by momentami gwałtownie przyśpieszać i szokować. Trudno jednak to opisywać słowami Najlepiej samemu zobaczyć, do czego serdecznie Was zachęcam.
Oprócz powyższych produkcji skończyłem ostatnio oglądać pierwszy sezon Suits, ale w przypadku tego serialu przede mną jeszcze aż 8 kolejnych (i nawet nie wiem, gdzie obejrzeć ostatni z nich), więc nie będę się rozpisywał na ten temat. Powiem tylko tyle: gdzie ten serial był wcześniej w moim życiu? Toż to czyste złoto! Opowieść o genialnych prawnikach oglądam z zapartym tchem i już nie mogę się doczekać kolejnych seansów.

The last weeks were full of impressions and time-consuming activities - it is enough to mention the move and visiting some monuments of Silesia. However, I managed to use up the scraps of my vacation for making up watching some films and series. On this occasion, the first post-break text was created, in which I present a short overview of Netflix news (well, almost). Have fun reading!
Lucifer, season five A, goes first. Most of you probably heard about this series, first by Fox, and now Netflix. For the record: The Lord of Hell leaves this position and starts living in Los Angeles as a nightclub owner, while helping a detective lady with a criminal mystery. The first half of the show's fifth season came to Netflix about a month ago and, to tell the truth, I was a little worried about it. This was due to the fact that although the idea for the series is really great, and the performance (especially the cast and music) was always at a high level, I was wondering how long you can go on. Would the further life of the devil on Earth be boring?
It turned out that definitely not! I guess there were a few things that contributed to that. First of all, this season once again plays with conventions: we are dealing, among other things, with self-parody, when the characters of the series find themselves on the set of a series based on their life, and an episode referring to the noir style. Secondly, care was taken to maintain a healthy balance between criminal and heaven themes - I have the impression that in previous seasons it was not working well sometimes, and here we have a decent arrangement: basically in every episode we see an interesting puzzle to be solved by detectives, but at the same time we also get something, at least a scene or two, that builds up the supernatural world and conflicts consuming it. It is also done by adding some new and quite interesting characters. I will not reveal which ones, but it is definitely worth finding out. Finally, the last factor I think makes "Lucifer"'s Season 5A really good to watch: it's consistent character development. While in the case of the main characters, Lucifer and Chloe, this is done to a limited extent (although quite significant), when it comes to Maze, Ella or Linda, we learn new things about them, see their new attitudes and they generally gain more screen time. And very well!
If you're a fan of "Lucifer", you've probably already seen season 5A. However, if by some miracle not, make up for it as soon as possible. In my opinion, it's really worth it. If you haven't watched this series yet, give it a try. You probably won't regret it.
Another thing my wife and I watched recently is the first season of Dark. Since there are two more ahead of us, I will not write too much. Let me just say it's a fantastic thing - like "Stranger Things", only more serious. Modern Germany, a small town dominated by a nuclear power plant. Missing children and ... Further mysterious phenomena. Darkness, dirt, disturbing atmosphere that makes you want to watch the next episode almost immediately. Everyone hides something here or at least gives the impression. Few of the characters can be liked, and yet you want to follow their adventures.
The series is full of puzzles and gives you plenty of room for your own theories. The season one finale brings some answers, but probably even more questions, so I hope to be able to start season two soon. I recommend the same to everyone!
Another production we have recently watched is Enola Holmes. This is absolutely fresh (the premiere took place literally a few days ago) movie, which in terms of climate clearly differs from other productions described today. The main character is the younger sister of Mycroft and the famous Sherlock, who on her sixteenth birthday discovers that her mother has disappeared. From that moment on, the girl is focused on searching for her beloved mother, while running away from her older brother's ideas for her future and solving the case of a certain marquis.
It's a perfect, not stupid entertainment, because what is not here?! There is humor and fast action, British accent, beautiful people and a great cast (Henry Cavill (!), but also Sam Claflin, Helena Bonham Carter and Millie Bobby Brown). Nevertheless, a whit of more serious threads was smuggled in here: the emancipation of women, considerations about the end justifying the means, and maybe even social stratification. In addition to this mix, there is also the atmospheric London or twists and turns (not particularly surprising, but quite good). As a result, we get a feel good movie for everyone, which still does not lose its quality. It's worth watching it on a free evening.
After something positive, we return to much more serious topics, because another recently watched novelty is The Devil All The Time. The premiere of this film took place on September 16 and it is a drama with elements of a thriller. The action takes place over the course of about twenty years, mainly in West Virginia and Ohio, and tells the story of a World War II veteran, Willard, and then his son, Arvin, as well as the people around them. They all experience traumatic events and try to deal with them in different ways. Most of them gradually roll downhill. The cast included, among others, Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson.
What is this movie like? Dark. Disturbing. It reveals some of the dark corners of the human mind. It shows madness, despair and desperation. It analyzes the motives of someone committing a crime. At the same time, it does it in a mesmerizing way that does not allow you to take your eyes off the screen. Seemingly, the action is slow, only to accelerate and shock at times. However, it is difficult to describe it in words. It's best to see for yourself, which I encourage you to do.
In addition to the above productions, I recently finished watching the first season of Suits, but in the case of this series, there are 8 more ahead of me (and I don't even know where to watch the last one), so I will not write about it. Let me just say this: where was this show before in my life? It's pure gold! I watch the story of brilliant lawyers with bated breath and I can't wait for the next screenings.
