Rozmawialiśmy ostatnio w pracy o życiu w Anglii. Temat zaczął się od tego, że stypendia doktoranckie są tam wyższe niż u nas. Potem było o tym, że ogólnie poziom życia w tamtym kraju jest wyższy. Klasyczne frazesy, nic nadzwyczajnego. Nagle jednak do rozmowy włączyła się koleżanka z Ukrainy i rzekła coś w stylu:
"- Wy tak mówicie o tej Anglii, a dla nas przyjazd tutaj jest jak dla Was tam."
Wow. Z jednej strony nie powiedziała nic, czego bym już nie wiedział lub przynajmniej się nie domyślał. Z drugiej strony zdanie to z ust kogoś, kto faktycznie tu przyjechał i widzi różnicę, ma moc i nadaje wagi całej sytuacji. Uświadamia, że dla całej rzeszy ludzi to my jesteśmy zachodem i to tutaj jest to lepsze życie. Chyba warto doceniać to, co się ma.
Ile z Twoich problemów jest prawdziwych? Jeśli masz co zjeść, ubrać, gdzie mieszkać, to cała reszta jest już dodatkiem. Oczywiście, apetyt rośnie w miarę jedzenia i po zapewnieniu podstawowych potrzeb chce się więcej - posiadać, doświadczać, widzieć. To jednak nie są już braki, tylko zachcianki. I nie ma w nich nic złego, ale lament, że którejś nie udało się spełnić, też jest trochę nie na miejscu. Nie twierdzę, że na Ukrainie brakuje tych absolutnie podstawowych rzeczy. Chodzi mi po prostu o to, że zawsze gdzieś ktoś jest w gorszej sytuacji.
Znaki prosperity!
Oczywiście, że poziom życia w Polsce mógłby być dużo wyższy. Sam się jednak taki nie stanie. Trzeba pracować na to, przekonywać wielkie konceny, że nasz kraj może być czymś więcej niż montownią, samemu być innowacyjnym i wspierać innowacyjność itd. W co najmniej części z tych kwestii pomagają kompetentne władze. Za tydzień wybory. Idźcie przynajmniej zagłosować, jeśli nie chcecie się bardziej angażować w życie społeczne. Prawda, że władze lokalne mają ograniczone możliwości, ale jednak w jakimś stopniu mogą pobudzać gospodarkę na swoim terenie. Wykorzystajcie ten fakt.
Jeśli uważacie, że to nie ma sensu, to faktycznie wyjedźcie, póki można. Rozważcie jeszcze tylko, czy jeśli mielibyście pracować poniżej waszych kompetencji, to ma to sens. Może faktycznie zarobicie więcej, ale czy opłaci się to wam w dłuższej perspektywie? Czy zdobędziecie takie doświadczenie i umiejętności, które dadzą wam możliwość awansu, popchnięcia waszej kariery do przodu? Po prostu zastanówcie się nad tym.

Recently we talked at work about life in England. The topic began with the statement that doctoral scholarships are higher there than in Poland. Then it was said that the general standard of living in that country is higher. Classic platitudes, nothing extraordinary. Suddenly, however, a colleague from Ukraine joined the conversation and said something like:
"- You say so about England, and for us, coming here is like being there for you."
Wow. On the one hand, she did not say anything that I haven't known or suspected before. On the other hand, the sentence from the mouth of someone who actually came here and sees the difference has power and gives weight to the whole situation. It makes us realize that for a whole lot of people we are the west and it is a better life here. I think it's worth appreciating what we have.
How many of your problems are real? If you have something to eat, dress, where to live, then the rest is an addition. Of course, the appetite grows as you eat, and after providing basic needs, you want more - to own, experience, see. However, these are no longer lacks, only whims. And there is nothing wrong with them, but the lament that one of them failed to be fulfilled is also somewhat out of place. I am not saying that there are no these absolutely basic things in Ukraine. My point is simply that there is always somewhere someone in a worse situation.
Of course, the standard of living in Poland could be much higher. However, it will not happen alone. People have to work on it, convince great consortiums that our country may be more than an assembly room. We have to be innovative and support innovation, etc. At least some of these issues are assisted by competent authorities. There will be elections in a week. At least vote, if you do not want to get more involved in social life. It is true that local authorities have limited possibilities, but they can, to some extent, stimulate the economy in their area. Take advantage of this fact.
If you think it does not make sense, then actually leave the country, while you can. Just consider does it make sense, if you would work below your competence? Maybe you will actually earn more, but will it pay off in the long run? Will you gain such experience and skills that will give you the opportunity to be promoted, push your career forward? Just think about it.
