Gdy studenci wydają się być młodzi...

When the students seem to be young... [English version below.]

To by zresztą potwierdzało trendy obserwowane od lat w powszechnych gustach muzycznych.

A potem przyszła...

Sobota

To prawda, zaczyna mnie w nich irytować coraz więcej rzeczy.

Dobrego popołudnia i tygodnia!

ENG:

This week the Juwenalia Śląskie (Silesian yearly student carnival) took place. Although I graduated a few months ago, yesterday and the day before yesterday I decided to go to this event. I could not sooner, because I was on a delegation and that's why I missed the concert of Stachursky with the musical equivalent of a pneumatic hammer, that is "Doskozzza". Well, an adult life can be sad...

In any case, I was able to take part in two days of this student event. How was it? Well...

Friday

First, the facts: I came back from the delegation on Friday, so I was tired. The only band that interested me, PRO8L3M, was starting on midnight. My future wife spent the evening with her friends from work and we met quite late. The effect was that we arrived at the event area way after 11 PM.

The first thing that surprised me was the number of people coming already back at that moment. As I understood, the biggest star was just about to play, and a lot of people were running away. This, however, quickly cleared up as we continued to squeeze through an even larger crowd. It was just that day that there was a really huge mass of people, probably much bigger than when rock artists are stars. That matches with the trends observed for years in common music tastes. In contrast to me, the vast majority of the crowd around was after a few hours of alcohol consumption, and some probably also after other stimulants. It made me feel the chaos around me. Then it turned out that this year, beer at the event costs 8 zlotys. This is not much for this wonderful drink, but at this event it's a lot. In addition, there were queues to the cash desks (although I admit, I saw a lot worse), it was impossible to pay with a card for the beer chips (some breakdown of the system), and the cashier spent me the rest of 26 zlotys as one banknote 10 zlotys and 16 single 1 zloty coins. I know that he probably did not have any other option, but it's one another annoying issue. Then it turned out that the area in front of the stage was covered with quite deep mud. My shoes I bought a week ago were a bit despairing, but fortunately they were quite cheap, so I had no qualms about making them desecrate.

Finally the concert started. We were not able to meet my friends, whom I knew were there, so we stood with My Darling from the side, watching the stage and listening to the performance. This turned out to be the brightest point of the evening. I am of the opinion that there are many artists who sound different on CDs and live. There are those whose performances on the stage have some shortcomings, lack of refinement, and there are those who, when recorded, lose their energy, spontaneity, advantages used during concerts. Nothing like this happened here. It turned out that the PRO8L3M live impresses the same as on the recordings. This was accompanied by a good show of lights and animations and a remarkable narrative between the songs, focused on dialogue.

Ultimately, based on common sense (not mine), we did not stay until the very end. We returned from there by taking a forty-minute walk. However, I was happy, because before that I heard most of what I wanted to hear. At the same time, I said that if the next day, supposed to be more in my climates, would also irritate me with some things, then I'm actually too old for student carnival. And then came...

Saturday

This time I came to the place with a special bus. It could not be confused with others because it was quite full of young people, many of whom were already drinking beer. It really was something familiar. I made an appointment with a buddy from high school and we met somehow before the 8 PM. KAMP! was already playing, the first band I wanted to listen to. There were a lot of people, but definitely less than the day before. We quickly exchanged the chips that were left from Friday for a dark beer and headed towards the stage. It turned out that on that day a long carpet was placed leading from the pavement to the place where the ground was grassy, not muddy and one could stand in civilized conditions. The concert turned out to be very pleasant, you could listen to it, you could stamp your foot. The screen behind the stage has been used for the narration with slogans, eg song titles. In the interval between performances, we went back for another beer chips and that day we bought them almost without a queue.

Soon afterwards, Strachy Na Lachy started playing. There is not much to write about their concert, because it was just as good as usual. I was positively surprised by the appearance of some songs, about which I had the impression that the band rarely plays them. Examples include "Krew z szafy" and "Dygoty". During the concert, my buddy spotted another friend of ours, also from high school, who is now working abroad. We talked to him a little, then he went to other friends. Meeting random friends also matches the things that I associate with student carnival, and these two of my friends met also other people they knew. It means that the phenomenon did not die, even if I experienced it only in a micro scale.

At the end of our presence at this event, BOKKA played. The band known mostly from the song "Town of strangers" also impressed me. Musically it was a very valuable experience, additionally supported by the fact that artists perform in masks, and the narrative was conducted as if in a chat. The vocalist from time to time was writing something on the computer to the audience, and her words were displayed on the big screen behind the stage. In general, the screen was an element of the show, because animations harmonizing with music were shown on it.

Unfortunately, at this concert, we also did not stay until the end (practical reasons related to further plans of my friend). Fortunately, what I managed to experience satisfies me. We also came back to the center of Katowice with a typical carnival's bus, although there was no level of crowd, which I got used to - the biggest exodus certainly took place right after the concert of Strachy Na Lachy.

After Saturday, I am no longer convinced that I am too old for yearly student carnival. That's true, more and more things start to irritate me. It ceases to be an event addressed for me. Nevertheless, if in the following years some interesting concerts will appear, I will have interesting companions and time, I will gladly choose this event again. Because in principle: why not?

And the song for today is one of the reasons why I wanted to take part in Juwenalia Śląskie yesterday. You can find it above.

Have a good afternoon and a week!

Dzień sebixów.

Hoodies' day. [English version below.]

Dobrego tygodnia!

ENG:

Silesian yearly student carnival. This year's edition ended yesterday. That day, me and My Love walked around the evening  from the bus towards the concert area. While walking through the crowd, we heard behind us a statement of some punk or metal girl, which sounded more or less the following:
"Why are so many hoodies (chavs) here?! Their day was yesterday. Today is our day!"
I admit, I hardly restrained myself from snorting. The hoodies' day? Our day? Seriously? Let me repeat it again: Silesian yearly student carnival. Yearly student carnival. An event on which all students mix, regardless of their musical tastes, clothes, views on life, etc., but in fact just everyone can appear there. So any groaning is simply stupid.

The fact is that the earlier day, Friday, was really focused on rap music. However, it does not change anything. I am convinced that a lot of people were enjoying themselves for both days, with very different genres of music. I would probably go for Friday's concerts if there were some other rappers. However, as I said, it does not matter. The key is that this is an event for everyone. I did not see any particular tensions, hoodies fighting with metalheads, etc.

After all: even if it were not a student carnival, but a typical rock event, would it change anything? Someone wouldn't have the right to have fun there, because, for example, he came in a tracksuit or he didn't wear a black t-shirt with the logo of a dark band? Let's not get into paranoia and let's not judge by appearance. In addition, there is always a chance that someone is just expanding their horizons, and that is really appreciated.

That's all. Even from students' party a man can take something "wise".

Song for today, which you can find above, is a great example of rap and rock cooperation.

Have a nice week!

Ogarnij się, leniu!

Get yourself together, you lazy bastard! [English version below].

Okej, zawsze to jakiś powód.
Pociągnijmy to ciut dalej:

"- Ok, a dlaczego nie miałeś siły? Co się dzieje?
 - Nie no, nic. Byłem w pracy przez cały tydzień..."

Nosz, cholera jasna!

Właśnie, bo to druga kwestia.

W grę wchodzą indywidualne predyspozycje i upodobania.

Jeśli natomiast chodzi o sam papierek magistra i nic więcej, to taniej byłoby go kupić. Serio.

Zostawiam Was z tą myślą i z przecudowną piosenką, którą odkryłem przed chwilą:

To by było na tyle. Studentom i niestudentom dobrego tygodnia! Następne wpisy będą już w ciut bardziej uniwersalnej tematyce.

ENG:

It took me a while to find a good topic for today's post. Failing to find a decent idea, I decided to pour some irritation out. The decision has already been made, and although more interesting ideas have appeared in the meantime, I have to be consistent. The ideas will stay for the next weeks, and today's text will be about studying. About students, being more precise. Session in progress, so the topic is very current.

"My studies, so beautiful." Exercises, lectures, you know that. Lately with the advantage of the latter. They are not obligatory, it is clear. A lot of people do not take part in them and that is ok. But ... They still would like to have some notes, right? I understand that there are different situations. There are important and more important matters. You could not be at the lecture, because there was your child's birthday, godson's birthday, the need to go to work, a trip for the whole weekend, illness or even drinking vodka with your brother-in-law. Okay, that's always a reason. Often, however, it happens that someone appears only at one lecture for a whole semester or even not, and his/her only justification every time is:
"I did not have strength anymore."
Ok, I do not judge. There are different situations. Maybe someone must take care of sick grandma, two children and manage the company at the same time. It happens, I guess. But, but! Let's pull it a bit further:
"- Ok, why did not you have strength? What's happening?
 - Nothing. I was at work all week ..."
Oh, damn it! Indeed, very surprising at extramural studies. After all, the remaining few hundred people stay at home for 5 days a week and laze, so they are in full strength when the weekend comes. No, it's not like that. I know that one job is uneven to the other. I can bet, however, that although I may not have the most tiring profession among my colleagues, I certainly do not have the least one and somehow I manage. I would also understand this argument if it appeared once or twice, but not every time. Then there is a great astonishment that with continuous absences you have a problem with passing the exams.

Well, it's the second issue. Difficulty to pass. I am of the opinion that it is enough to be present at the lecture and listen a little, then repeat the whole thing several times, without exaggeration (and it's really without the exaggeration, because there is not much time - there is work, minor social activities, a will to sleep at some decent minimum and keeping in touch with the family and friends) and most of the exams will be passed without major problems. With this approach, my worst grade in my studies was one, only 3,5. Moreover, it was the subject, which concerned taxes, so it might as well be about the construction of space ferries and would be similarly understandable to me.

It is known that everyone learn differently. Individual predispositions and preferences are at stake. However, without giving yourself a chance to listen to what the lecturer has to say, it is certainly harder. If you read the notes for the first time in the evening before the exam, it is not surprising that the results are what they are (that is, there are almost none). The next time you're going to say that you did not have time before, think about whether or not it is not a question of how you managed it. You could probably reduce all other activities to the necessary minimum for the two weeks of the session.

I'm unnecessarily nervous. In the end, it's an individual matter for everyone how he or she learns or does not learn. It pisses me off, however. People from my year spend ten thousand Polish new zlotys  for two years of education. Plenty of money, which could be used in a lot of interesting ways. Do they care to learn something by spending this money? I hope so. It must be however followed by specific actions. So far, there is no system that would make the knowledge flow into your head immediately after payment. If it's only about master's diploma itself and nothing more, it would be cheaper to buy it. Seriously. The chance that it would come to light someday is not so big.

I leave you with this thought and the wonderful song that I discovered a moment ago (you can find it above).

That's it. Have good week, students and the rest! The next entries will be in a more universal theme.
