Zero presji.

No pressure. [English version below.]

To były jedyne kryteria. Nie miały znaczenia różnice programowe (inny język obcy niż dotychczas), brak jakichkolwiek znajomych czy inne kwestie. Nie. Mama zdecydowała i tak musiało być.

Czytałem też inne historie. O rodzicach, wybierających dziecku kierunki studiów mimo absolutnego braku talentu do tych dziedzin.

To kwestia osobistej determinacji.

Posłuchajcie i wy:

To wszystko. Życzę Wam wszystkim dobrego dnia i życia.

I sometimes read various stories on the internet (no, not the page Anonymous Confessions). People write what happened to them. Some stories are probably made up, but some are real. Some are shocking, others outrageous, and others just sad.

I read, for example, about a girl who wanted to go to a vocational school or technical college to learn specific profession, but not, because her mother decided otherwise. At all costs she had to choose a high school - not just any, but in a much larger city, however as close as possible to the railway station. These were the only criteria. The differences in the program (other foreign language than before), lack of any friends or other issues did not matter. No. Mum decided it must have been so.

I also read other stories. About parents choosing fields of study for their children despite their absolute lack of talent in these fields. About parents forcing their descendants to follow them in career, engage in or take over the family business or to realize unfulfilled ambitions of parents.

Every time I thought only one thing: "horrible". I can blame my parents for a few things (not much), but they definitely were not imposing anything on my life choices. They were more involved when choosing the gymnasium, but we were quite unanimous, and when choosing the high school they served only as an advisory body. Before choosing my studies, I totally changed my mind a few times and they did not interfere. They suggested that I could go to another city, but I decided not to. They learned about my decisions related to taking up the job when I took them, but I could still withdraw, so they had a chance to express their opinion. It was similar with the change of university after the bachelor.

In general, they watched, listened and, if necessary, spoke, bringing attention to certain aspects, but the decision was always mine. This is how it should look like. I know that for many of you this is probably obvious, but there is a risk that not for everyone.

Let children make decisions. Sure, advise, express your opinion, but let the final choice be theirs. If they make a mistake - well, that is a pity. Probably the decisions will not affect their entire future, because, come on, the choice of school can have an impact on later studies or work, but it does not have to. It's a matter of personal determination. Let them decide, so they learn as soon as possible that each decision has its consequences. If they are to bear them, let them decide.

Anyway, I am sure that the vast majority of readers of this post do not have children, and those who have them have adult children who already decide about themselves or too small ones to do so. Nevertheless, one day we may be affected by this issue. In addition, this entire post can also be  related to other people close to us. They do not have to be children, but parents, friends, spouses, siblings. Many people we care about. However, we must ensure that the care does not turn into a taking control. That is all.

The song for today is chosen, because I feel like listening to it. You can do it too, if you find it above.

That's all. I wish you all a good day and life.

Pustka i szczęście.

Emptiness and happiness. [English version below.]

Można by uwzględnić w tych rozważaniach Boga. No, może.

Dużo pytań i wątpliwości.

To wszystko nieważne.

Jeśli więc czasem nachodzą Was takie egzystencjalne refleksje, to w porządku.

To tyle. Dobrego dnia, tygodnia, życia i wieczności!

ENG:

Who we are? Where are we heading? Why are we here? What is the meaning of our existence? Someone might try to explain it with the duty to help others, the weaker, the poorer etc., but I do not accept this explanation. This is because I am asking about the purpose of all humanity, not a specific human being. For the same reason, I am not convinced by objectives like "creating art" or "leaving something for posterity". Why do something for them, since I also don't see the sense of their existence?

So maybe humanity exists to make the world a better place? First of all, if that was the case, then it is not doing well. Secondly, okay, it could be so, but for whom would this better place be created? For posterity? As above, it makes no sense. For other living beings, animals? It could be, but then what for do they exist? Maybe to serve man? It would only close the circle of meaninglessness. If not, what is life for?

You could include God in these considerations. Let's assume that he created whole life, not even directly, but through a big bang and evolution. For what? To have someone to play with? To have someone to rule? Maybe to have someone to look after? Well, maybe. Of course, if that was the case, then we would not understand his motivation as a superior, omnipotent being.

However, the alternative is that arising of all life in the universe is a result of an accident, a specific sequence of chemical and biological phenomena. Evolution. This would mean that the existence of humanity makes no sense.

Add to this other questions: are we alone in the universe? Do other self-conscious beings exist in it? If so, are they similar to us or do they function differently? Maybe they are based on other elements, have a different shape, physical state, use different mathematics? Maybe.

Let's move on. It is possible that there are intelligent beings somewhere that function in a different number of dimensions than we do. For them, going back in time is like taking a step back for us. Besides, is the universe really infinite? Or is it just an atom in the world of beings that are much, much greater than us? And what about alternative universes? Are we just one of the infinite versions of ourselves?

A lot of questions and doubts. Most interestingly, most likely none of them will be resolved during my lifetime. It is possible that humanity will never be able to explain these issues. But you know what...

It doesn't matter. For one simple reason: I'm happy anyway. I have a wonderful wife, awesome friends, great parents, a good job. And so on. Despite the fact that I do not know why what for is this all, the whole world, species, planet etc., I still enjoy life.

So if you have such existential reflections sometimes, that's fine. However, if the inability to answer such large-caliber questions would start to depress you, think about whether you really need to know all this. Maybe it's enough to focus on here and now, enjoy life and be fair to others. Maybe.

The song for today is something really beautiful. You can find it above.

That's all. Have a good day, week, life and eternity!

A może lekkie szturchnięcie?

How about a delicate poke? [English version below.]

Potem podpięto do mnie linę i wszedłem do kosza. Zrobiono mi trochę zdjęć i ruszyliśmy w górę.
Wielka Krokiew i Giewont),

To ja.

Wybierze moment. Zadba o to, żeby nie było wymówek. Powie: "Ok, chcesz to zrobić? To zrób to teraz."

Zostawiam Was z utworem odrobinę nawiązującym do tematu:

Dobrego popołudnia, tygodnia, życia!

ENG:

As you can know from my Facebook or Instagram, my bachelor party took place a week ago. The route led from Katowice, including canoes on the Vistula, then through Nowy Targ and Zakopane, to Slovakia. There were tons of fun, a lot of memories were collected and I got great presents.

Today, however, I would like to focus on what happened in Zakopane. I started to suspect what it would be when we were still in Nowy Targ. I had three premises for this:
  • it turned out that some shuffles in cars are necessary, because not everyone goes to the next point, which would mean that this is an attraction only for me,
  • I knew about what kind of attraction I had been talking for a long time,
  • people who omitted the next point said goodbye to me half-jokingly saying that it could be the last time we see each other, and this suggested something that is a bit dangerous.

When we entered Zakopane and approached the destination, I was certain that my deduction processes worked properly. i was precisely seeing the crane for the jumps. Next attraction was a bungee jump.

I was very happy, though doubt was somewhere in the back of my head. "What if you will hesitate and be scared at the top?" a thought whispered, but I quickly chased it away. "You just ate dinner ..." said the second one and I could not argue with that. However, there was no time for overthinking. I got rid of all unnecessary things (wallet, phone, glasses, etc.), read the regulations, signed it and listened to the necessary information. Then a rope was hooked up to me and I entered the basket. There were taken some pictures of me and we went up. Along the way, the instructor passed on to me secret knowledge, which for good dispersed the first of my doubts. In brief:
  • stand at the edge of the basket,
  • do not look down and instead see the views (including Wielka Krokiew and Giewont),
  • after the signal, spread your arms and just lean forward (you do not have to jump, gravity will do the job).
At the top, it was time for the next photo session, and then the signal came. I spread my arms, leaned forward with my legs straight and... I fell down.

It does not make sense to write a lot about the jump itself. It is too short. Because of adrenaline not much reaches you. You are falling down, sure that you will say goodbye to life and suddenly something stops you and pulls you up. As if angels saved your life. Only that a second later gravity wins again.

It is impossible to hide that it is a big experience. As I mentioned earlier, for a long time I have wanted to jump. Always, however, something was a problem. For example, there was no one of those I would like to be there, or the queue to jump was too long. I probably just lacked determination. In the end, however, someone made a decision for me.

It is said that sometimes it is necessary to be gently poked when you are on the top of the crane, but I needed it downstairs. When I was taken to the crane and heard "You are jumping.", I took it for granted. I wanted to do it and if someone had organized the whole thing, there was no reason to give up.

I think that sometimes, with various, more or less important decisions, we need someone who will make it easier for us. He or she chooses a moment. This person takes care that there are no excuses. He or she says, "Ok, you really want to do it? Do it now." Such a person is also the final verifier of whether you really want to make a decision. If everything is ready, you can only do the thing or admit that you do not want to. You have to show courage or simply withdraw. There is no third option.

When making important decisions or making your dreams come true, it may be worth having someone with you who will take care of everything. Otherwise you will always be able to try to dodge the decision. That is a free thought resulting from a jump from over eighty meters.

That is all for today. I leave you with the song a bit referring to the topic. You can find it above.

Have a good afternoon, week, life!

Optymalne decyzje.

Optimum decisions. [English version below.]

Pisząc te słowa wracam z Krakowa. Pół weekendu spędziłem z dwoma kumplami, wczoraj na mieście, a dzisiaj głównie grając w gry planszowe. Całe dwie. Łącznie cztery partie. Model 1+3. Pierwsza była nieco bardziej rozbudowana. Konkretnie to Relic: Tajemnica Sektora Antian.

Dobrego tygodnia.

ENG:

Writing these words I am coming back from Krakow. I spent half the weekend with two buddies, yesterday partying in the city, and today mainly playing board games. In a number of two. A total of four times. Model 1 + 3. The first one was a bit more complex. Specifically, it was Relic. Our host has won this game many times before. So it was also this time. He left us much behind him, though he did not fully declassed us.

I think at the very end, when it was already almost obvious that he would win, he began to argue that it is not that he is lucky, but simply he makes the optimum decisions. He said that if it was otherwise, he would not have won so often. And okay, this argument makes sense. Only that one more thing must be taken into account: while I was able to do something there, sometimes with a bigger one, sometimes with less luck, the other friend who played with us was clearly unlucky. Almost every time the dices were rolling so that the opponents, with whom he had to fight, received huge bonuses and it was impossible to defeat them. In case of the winner, this happened only a few times.

Here the question arises: what is the key to victory? Making good decisions or having luck? It probably depends on the game itself. I bet it is usually the result of both these factors. Having constant bad luck it is unlikely to win, but by making bad choices it is also difficult to achieve. I think that making the optimal decisions comes down to maximizing benefits when you're lucky and minimizing losses when you're unlucky.

So when something does not go our way it can surely be explained by bad luck, but it is also worth considering whether you could do something better yourself. On the other hand, in the situation of success, it is worth emphasizing that it was the challange to achieve it, that you used your intellect, but at the same time it should be borne in mind that probably a little bad luck would suffice and the result would be quite different.

That is all. Song for today was posted above. Have a nice week.
