Zero presji.

No pressure. [English version below.]

To były jedyne kryteria. Nie miały znaczenia różnice programowe (inny język obcy niż dotychczas), brak jakichkolwiek znajomych czy inne kwestie. Nie. Mama zdecydowała i tak musiało być.

Czytałem też inne historie. O rodzicach, wybierających dziecku kierunki studiów mimo absolutnego braku talentu do tych dziedzin.

To kwestia osobistej determinacji.

Posłuchajcie i wy:

To wszystko. Życzę Wam wszystkim dobrego dnia i życia.

ENG:

I sometimes read various stories on the internet (no, not the page Anonymous Confessions). People write what happened to them. Some stories are probably made up, but some are real. Some are shocking, others outrageous, and others just sad.

I read, for example, about a girl who wanted to go to a vocational school or technical college to learn specific profession, but not, because her mother decided otherwise. At all costs she had to choose a high school - not just any, but in a much larger city, however as close as possible to the railway station. These were the only criteria. The differences in the program (other foreign language than before), lack of any friends or other issues did not matter. No. Mum decided it must have been so.

I also read other stories. About parents choosing fields of study for their children despite their absolute lack of talent in these fields. About parents forcing their descendants to follow them in career, engage in or take over the family business or to realize unfulfilled ambitions of parents.

Every time I thought only one thing: "horrible". I can blame my parents for a few things (not much), but they definitely were not imposing anything on my life choices. They were more involved when choosing the gymnasium, but we were quite unanimous, and when choosing the high school they served only as an advisory body. Before choosing my studies, I totally changed my mind a few times and they did not interfere. They suggested that I could go to another city, but I decided not to. They learned about my decisions related to taking up the job when I took them, but I could still withdraw, so they had a chance to express their opinion. It was similar with the change of university after the bachelor.

In general, they watched, listened and, if necessary, spoke, bringing attention to certain aspects, but the decision was always mine. This is how it should look like. I know that for many of you this is probably obvious, but there is a risk that not for everyone.

Let children make decisions. Sure, advise, express your opinion, but let the final choice be theirs. If they make a mistake - well, that is a pity. Probably the decisions will not affect their entire future, because, come on, the choice of school can have an impact on later studies or work, but it does not have to. It's a matter of personal determination. Let them decide, so they learn as soon as possible that each decision has its consequences. If they are to bear them, let them decide.

Anyway, I am sure that the vast majority of readers of this post do not have children, and those who have them have adult children who already decide about themselves or too small ones to do so. Nevertheless, one day we may be affected by this issue. In addition, this entire post can also be  related to other people close to us. They do not have to be children, but parents, friends, spouses, siblings. Many people we care about. However, we must ensure that the care does not turn into a taking control. That is all.

The song for today is chosen, because I feel like listening to it. You can do it too, if you find it above.

That's all. I wish you all a good day and life.

Najlepszy film w historii?

Best movie ever? [English version below.]

In Hollywood", najnowszy, dziewiąty film Quentina Tarantino.

Miałem więc nieco powodów do obaw. To właśnie zrobiliśmy.

Dlaczego? Zacznijmy od oczywistych rzeczy.

Muzyka.

Opisane powyżej elementy doskonale dbają o to, żeby widz poczuł klimat Hollywood u schyłku lat sześćdziesiątych.

Obsada i gra aktorska.

"Once upon a time... In Hollywood" jest fascynujące i wciągające.

Napiszcie swoją, a jeśli jeszcze nie widzieliście "Once upon a time... In Hollywood", to pędźcie do kina.

Piosenka na dziś to utwór ze ścieżki dźwiękowej filmu:

To tyle. Trzymajcie się ciepło.

ENG:

Last Monday, my wife and I finally went to cinema to see "Once upon a time ... In Hollywood", the latest, ninth movie by Quentin Tarantino. Finally, because it was over three weeks after the Polish premiere of this film. Today is a month. It would seem that whoever wanted to see this movie has already done it, but after talking to various friends of mine, I come to the conclusion that it is not true, so maybe the movie is still worth writing about it.

I was a little worried before going to the cinema. I read positive reviews about the movie, some of them even expressing delight. However, I also heard critical voices saying that the film is boring, that watching it is a waste of two hours and forty-one minutes (yes, it is so long). In opposition to this, the voices of recognition claimed that they did not even realize when this time had passed.

So I had a bit of concern. I tried to calm down, telling myself that it was Tarantino, so I must like the movie. On the other hand, if I did not appreciate this director's film, it would only increase the extent of the disaster. There was only one solution to this puzzle. We had to go to the cinema and find out for ourselves. That's what we did.

I have found out. This movie is absolutely delightful, it's one of the best movies I've ever watched, if not the best. And here we are talking about both Tarantino films and all others. Why? Let's start with the obvious things.

Music. The movie's soundtrack is an absolute wonder. You can already find it on Spotify. Wonderful songs, from the era and perfectly reflecting the atmosphere of the film were properly interwoven with radio commercials, speakers giving information about the weather and other such inserts that facilitate immersion into the world presented in the movie.

Visual aspect. The movie looks beautiful. Colors, styles, clothes, cars, film sets - all this adds up to a stunning paradise for the eyes. All you have to do is look at the poster above - it's just pure beauty and there is no more to talk about it.

The elements described above make the viewer feels the atmosphere of Hollywood in the late sixties. Add to this the fact that fictitious heroes in the foreground meet historical characters such as Bruce Lee, Sharon Tate or Roman Polański for a while. In addition, as is usually the case in Tarantino movies, for quite a lot of the story it is quite funny, but not through forced jokes, somebody's tomfoolery or something similar, but through genuinely funny situations. A great example is the scene of a clash with Bruce Lee.

Finally, what was eye-catching from the beginning. Cast and acting. You don't have to write a lot here, because the names speak for themselves. Brad Pitt the older the better, absolutely captivating. In many moments, he steals the movie and it can be concluded that his character is the main character of the story. In turn, Leonardo DiCaprio shows that he can really play wonderfully. Even more, he can play perfectly that he can play perfectly. He plays the role of an actor in a professional crisis. In addition, Margot Robbie charms on the screen, creating a very credible creation, and in addition in the cast there were, among others, Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russel. That they provide the high quality is obvious because they are professionals. However, their roles, even if they are not particularly important, are played with extreme lightness. It's a pleasure to watch them at work.

All of the above, however, are issues that are hardly the subject of dispute between audience. The film sounds, looks and is played beautifully and nobody argues with it. Some objections are more about the script, the story and the fact that some people think the film is simply boring.

Well, I totally disagree. "Once upon a time ... In Hollywood" is fascinating and engaging. The film takes place over just a few days, but with a time jump in the middle. It shows us interesting heroes, outlines their motivations, experiences, failures, successes and fears in a relatively short time, and illustrates the relationships between them. Thanks to this, we can later see how history could have turned out if such people would find themselves in a specific time, in a specific place.

Besides, accusing this movie of nothing happening in it is bullshit. For most of the plot there are no great, groundbreaking, spectacular scenes, these come only at the end, but it is precisely in order to picture the people who lead their relatively quiet lives and suddenly clash with something unexpected. Accusations of lack of action would make more sense in the case of such films as "Hateful eight" or "Reservoir Dogs", but no one seriously accuses them, because they were constructed so, in addition, for a specific purpose. It is similar here.

By the way, this film can absolutely not be boring and I have a simple argument for it. Somewhere at the end of the movie, at some point, one could feel that the finale was approaching and I asked myself in the spirit of "Is it already?!". It is not known when the first two hours and twenty minutes have passed and the last twenty were left. Time passed like crazy, this movie was so good to watch.

Only that all of this above is, of course, my subjective opinion. Write yours and if you haven't seen "Once upon a time ... In Hollywood" yet, go to the cinema.

The song for today is from the movie soundtrack. You can find it above.

That's all. Keep good.

Lepiej milcz.

Better keep silent. [English version below.]

Wraz z żoną wróciliśmy dzisiaj rano z festiwalu Pol'and'Rock. Gdy piszę te słowa, jedziemy akurat na chwilę do Krakowa, więc jesteśmy trochę zabiegani i zmęczeni. W związku z tym wpis będzie krótki.

O festiwalu.

Narkotyki?

Podnoszą do góry niepełnosprawnych.

To tyle. Trzymajcie się!

ENG:

My wife and I came back this morning from the Pol'and'Rock festival. As I write these words, we are just going to Krakow for a moment, so we are a bit busy and tired. Therefore, this entry will be short.

About the festival. When this subject sometimes appears in conversations, some of my friends, e.g. from work, start to laugh that it is just mud, dirt and garbage, and possibly drugs. A similar narrative often appears in certain media and is also used by some social groups, the so-called defenders of traditional values, etc. One thing about that is the funniest / saddest. What? The fact that those are almost always statements of people who have never been to this festival.

This year I was there for the eighth time. And yes, there is a bit of mud and dirt, because it's inevitable with a few hundred thousand people in the field and in the forest. The vast majority of people, however, try to clean up after themselves and collect trash to the bags immediately or at the end of the festival. The mud can also be effectively avoided (which I have been doing for years). Drugs? If someone is looking for them, he or she will probably find them. I have never looked for. You have to be responsible for yourself.

What all these people will not say and the media will not show is the rest. Great concerts in large numbers, which add a great atmosphere to good music. A community of people who mostly help each other as much as they can. They quickly raise the ones falling in the mosh pit. They pick the disabled up in the crowd to enable them see. They help looking for missing things. They share food, alcohol and cigarettes. In addition, the festival also includes meetings with interesting, smart guests - we listened to Zbigniew Zamachowski this year. You can also find workshops on making eco-bags or dream catchers, counteracting violence, various dances and many, many more. It's just a place full of goodness.

With regard to this festival, but also to anything else: if you have not verified gossip yourself, then maybe you'd better keep silent. Do not talk if you do not know how it really is. In this way you will avoid discredit and you will not show others how gullible you are and how narrow your horizons are. Also, do not lean on the fact that you have seen any video. First of all, their creators would have to want remain objective. Even if they tried, they might not be able to do it, because creating completely impartial content is very difficult. When we talk about, for example, a few dozens seconds for a big and complex festival, it seems completely impossible. That's why you can see for yourself or stop talking. You will, of course, do as you like.

Song for today is one of the recordings from last year's festival. You can find it above.

That's all. Take care!

Spójrz po swojemu!

Look your own way! [English version below.]

Wybieram się dzisiaj do kina na „Solo”. Wreszcie.

I tyle. Nic ponadto. Nie był rewelacyjny, przełomowy. Zapewne go zapamiętam, ale bez wielu szczegółów.

To wszystko jednak nieważne.

ENG:

I'm going to the cinema for "Solo" today. Finally. I'm skipping the fact that I just want to watch this movie. An important cause is the absolute chaos associated with opinions about it. Let me remind you.

It started with great fears. Then, especially after the second trailer, the voices saying "maybe it will not be so bad" appeared. Later, the foreign premieres came and most of the opinions were very good, sometimes enthusiastic. Finally, there was a time for Polish reviews and suddenly it turned out that their tone was like "meh, there is no delight" and sometimes criticism was very strong.

Well, in this situation I was put against the wall. I'm going to the screening. Rest of this entry will be written after that.

Already after. You know what? I really liked the movie. Fast action, interestingly developed heroes, tension-building sound, beautiful frames. Really good movie. And that's it. Nothing more. It was not sensational, groundbreaking. I will probably remember it, but without much detail. And I was hoping that chase scenes, or generally related to spaceships, would be more spectacular.

However, all of this is not important. The bottom line is that it's my own opinion. Developed on the basis of my own eyes, ears and taste. I do not hurl between the extreme impressions of people on opposite sides of the barricade, but I have my own opinion.

Don't forget that any reviews, opinions of others, published anywhere, can be a help to us, a clue, they can emphase certain elements, but they can never replace our own opinions. Those must be experienced experimentally. You need to find out about everything on your own (maybe not literally, because you do not have to see for yourself, for example, what happens when you put your hand in hydrochloric acid). In any case, verify what you read or hear. Confront different opinions with each other. Challenge your views. As Beckett, one of the heroes of the movie "Solo" says:
Trust no one!
It is worth remembering.

Piece of music for today is something that in my opinion is worth attention. But you must verify it yourself, because you probably have not heard it yet. You can find it above.

That is all for today. Have a nice week!
