Dobrze się sprzedaj.

Sell yourself well. [English version below.]

Na pewno dobrze zapamiętam chwilę, gdy na jakieś moje pytanie z ust jednego z nich padło głośne "YEAH, GOOD VIBES, MAN!".

No nic, tylko takich zatrudniać!

Pierwsza to kompletna nieumiejętność zaprezentowania samego siebie z dobrej strony.

Powtarzał te same pytania kilkukrotnie.

Dopiero potem przeszli do kontrataku i zapytali o losowanie nagród.

Wróciła, a jakże. Walczyła i walczyła. I wszystko okej.

Zostawiam Was z genialnym utworem, który odkryłem naprawdę niedawno:

Dobrego popołudnia, tygodnia i życia!

ENG:

Last week, I took part in the Katowice Absolvent Talent Days as a representative of my employer. Great event! I was talking to people already working, but also to students and high school graduates. I was presenting them with job, internship or training offers. I was asking them what they were interested in, what career plans they had. I was explaining what can be gained from working with us and that the speed of acquiring knowledge, skills and even acquaintance is staggering. In addition, I was encouraging them to complete the surveys and draw the prize like in a Lotto lottery machine. There were great t-shirts or notebooks to win.

In addition, I met a few people from other departments of the company where I work and they turned out to be great, and such acquaintances can always be useful. Overall, I had a very nice day, only at some point my legs started to hurt. It wasn't important though, because I had so much fun. The most interesting for me was when I talked for a long time with two students of the University of Economics in Katowice who came to Silesia to study from far Ghana (or at least one of them). I will definitely remember the moment when I asked them something and one of them answered aloud "YEAH, GOOD VIBES, MAN!"

I was delighted with most people who came to this job fair. They knew what they wanted or at least that they wanted something. They asked precise questions, they were able to accurately say something about themselves. Well, nothing but employ them!

Of course, this wasn't the case with everyone. I noticed in particular two attitudes that, in addition to being annoying, may one day harm these people.

The first is the complete inability to present yourself from the good side. Some of the people who approached us looked completely scared or not knowing why they were there. Some guy appeared at our stand and he probably had quite a lot of skills. It was about IT, so the area very loosely related to the company in which I work, but still with a certain degree of connection and job offers. In addition, specialists in this field are now very much needed, and demand is still increasing. Still, I think this man may have some trouble finding a sensible job. Why? Because he could not present himself well, "sell himself" to recruiters.

Before you say that he did not have to do it: it's not that I would require some brilliant self-presentation show, charming with words, smiling irresistibly, bragging achievements, etc. No. I only mean that he should give at least a piece of the chance that others could get along with him. Meanwhile, the guy spoke mumbling and looking down. He couldn't be understood. He repeated the same questions several times. Talking to him was just difficult and tiring and I doubt anyone would want to hire him after something like that.

The second attitude difficult to accept was quite different. It was a pugnacity, but focused on very short-term benefits. As I mentioned, we had a machine where you put your hand in and catch one of the balls flying in the middle, thus drawing a prize. For some time, situations where people were coming to us and immediately asking what they had to do to draw the prize or simply were reaching to the machine themselves were common. Stand, company, work, opportunities - they were not particularly interested in any of those things. Only the prize mattered. Often they were people who could talk sensibly, present themselves well, make fun, but it was clear that the only thing they cared about at the moment was a prize worth a dozen or several dozen zlotys. This, of course, does not diminish their career prospects when they will change their priorities a bit, but it can happen, for example, that someone remembers these faces as people strongly fighting only for this T-shirt or notebook, and then he or she while conducting a job interview with such a person, will remind him/herself this and at the subconscious level his/her attitude will change to negative.

The couple I remembered best were smarter. First they talked to us about work, opportunities, company and such issues and made quite a good impression. Only then they started the counterattack and asked about the prize draw. They had the full right to do this, filled out surveys and took part in the fun. The problem arose when the girl did not draw the shirt as she wanted, but sticky notes. She immediately attempted to negotiate. She wanted to draw again. She asked, whined, persuaded. All for nothing. All she got was a playful suggestion that she should came later in disguise.

Well, she came back. Not at all disguised, but at the end of the event. She was trying again to convince us to give her another chance or even just to give her a T-shirt. She fought and fought. I am not sure how this situation ended. It seems to me that finally someone capitulated and for the sake of peace gave her another draw, in which the t-shirt was selected. So everything was fine. Only some distaste remained.

Two main thoughts came to me after this job fair. The first is that the situation is good. I met a lot of people with ambitions, eager to work, wanting to do something from the first year of study. The second is that what is said and how it is said is important. Form and content cannot exist without each other. If you want to do something with your career, you need to have ambitions, but also be able to show it.

That is all for today. I leave you with a brilliant song that I have discovered really recently. You can find it above.

Have a good afternoon, week and life!

Obsługa ponad reklamę.

Service over advertising. [English version below.]

Dwie sytuacje zakupowe z ostatniego tygodnia:

Te dwie sytuacje doprowadziły mnie do dwóch wniosków. Chodzi głównie o to, żeby pozyskać nowego klienta.

Zawodowo przygotowujesz jedzenie i coś będzie niedogotowane/niedopieczone? Przygotowujesz wiadomości i coś pominiesz albo przedstawisz nierzetelnie?

Dobrego tygodnia!

ENG:

Two shopping situations from last week:

1) A week ago, together with My Darling, we went to settle some matters downtown, including wedding rings (this is about time!). We have visited perhaps three salons (all belonging to smaller or larger networks) and I admit that I do not think their offers differ significantly from each other. Patterns were different, but to a certain extent similar, prices and the possibility of choice probably also. These stores, however, differed among themselves a certain important issue, namely the approach to the customer. In the first two I felt a bit like an intruder. In the one we visited first, the employee came to us, showed and explained a bit, but there was some noticeable discouragement in him. In the next shop a saleswoman was not particularly interested in us at first, and then, in order to find out anything, we had to pull her teeth a bit.

To be clear, I do not expect merchants to excessively care for me, but wedding rings are a difficult topic. This decision may not be huge in a financial aspect, but it is quite large, and additionally burdened with a symbolic meaning. The chosen wedding rings are to serve the end of life, and the average customer is not familiar with this type of jewelry. One could expect at least a minimum of support from the sellers.

I also understand that they did not recognize us as really promising clients. If not my receding hairline, me and My Darling would look very young (which is true!). In addition, I dressed a hoodie on this day (as usual) and was carrying a large sports bag on my shoulder, packed with things. So we could give the impression of people who will watch, take time, but do not make any serious purchase. I understand this, but I think that shopkeepers should maintain a level of professionalism that would not show me that they think so.

In connection with the above, I was very positively surprised in the third salon that we visited (W. Śliwiński in Galeria Katowicka). Employees there gave us a moment to look at wedding rings by ourselves, but they immediately informed us that they would come later. Indeed, after a while one of them joined us and with full professionalism began to advise, show, answer questions about the size, patterns, possible changes, costs, etc. Finally, after we made the initial selection, she gave us printouts with all necessary information.

And you know what? I do not know if we'll buy wedding rings there. It's hard to say yet. However, if we were to choose only between these three salons, it would probably end this way (even if we had to pay a bit more, in which I doubt anyway).

2) I changed a phone recently. The very process of buying a new smartphone was associated with minor problems, but they resulted rather from the system than someone's mistakes, and they were not really important, so I will skip it. The important thing is that due to the change of equipment I had to change the microSIM card to nanoSIM. Before today's visit to the Plus salon, I was quite discouraged because I was recently pissed off at this network. Fact, they changed my offer to a clearly more favorable one (this is the main reason for changing the phone), but on the other hand I was on a delegation this week and almost everyone had coverage in our "hotel", except me. So I expected the worst: queues, intricate formalities, additional, significant and annoying costs. In fact...

In fact, nothing like that happened. A few minutes after ten a.m., just after opening the salon, there was no crowd. The employee who handled us was able to deal with everything very quickly (card change was only one of the things to do), and it would probably take even less time, if in the meantime he wasn't helping his colleague from the second desk, who apparently was less experienced and struggled with some difficult case. In addition, the gentleman answered all our questions efficiently and concisely. Of course, I had to pay for the change, but only PLN 13, and additionally I got a set of adapters for all types of currently used cards. It's nothing big, but efficient and professional service today has improved my opinion about Plus more than any advertising or forced actions.

These two situations led me to two conclusions. The first is that various companies and brands, instead of spending exorbitant money on advertising, which is sometimes completely absurd, should promote themselves through high quality customer service. Sure, that's not enough. Advertising campaigns are designed to present the offer, new products, an advantage over the competitors' offers. The main point is to get a new customer. It's just that the customer satisfied with the service is the customer who will come back. A poorly serviced person may not only never buy anything from given brand again, but also discourage others. If one entity on the market does not clearly outclass the remaining ones with a price or quality, then the standards showed by its employees may be crucial when choosing a supplier of a given equipment or service. I hope that some companies will try to promote themselves using this.

The second conclusion: I perfectly understand that nobody has to be enthusiastic about their work. Not everybody gets a commission for sales, to really fight for a client. The company's interest is often not consistent with the personal one. That is totally clear. However, I have one, maybe overly idealistic idea that if you work somewhere, you should do your job well or at least try. Are you a seller? Sell, or at least do not discourage a potential customer. Do not let him/her feel that he/she is unwanted. If you do not like your job and do it slapdash, almost always not only the company that employs you suffers, but also other people. Examples of life saving professions would be too obvious, so I will skip them. However, they are different ones. What if you professionally prepare food and something will be undercooked / undercooked? Your company will lose its reputation, but also some specific person will eat a bad meal. Are you preparing news and omitting something or presenting unreliable? Your company will lose its credibility, but also real people will be misled. Do you do cleaning and leave a mess? Perhaps your company will lose the contract, but certainly specific people will stay in this unfavorable environment.

And so on and so forth. If you do not like your work, you can seriously change it, and if you do not want to do it, at least do not make life difficult for other people. It is not complicated at all.

A song for today? This could be "Doskozzza", the latest madness of Jacek Stachursky, but I decided to focus on a slightly different sounds. You can find them above.

Have a nice week!

Patrz w przód!

Look forward! [English version below.]

To wszystko jednak nieważne.

W trakcie prób pisania powstają dziwne nazwy plików i folderów...

Dobrego tygodnia!

ENG:

Last week, I had to dedicate the entire Sunday studying. First classes from 8am at one end of the city, then the master's seminar at the other end, then return to the first place and being there until the evening. Well, I've chosen the fate of an extramural student myself.

Anyway, I would like to focus on this seminar. I entered it with 20 pages of thesis. I left with a maximum of 1.5. I learned that 90% of what I have done so far is suitable for the bin. Is that sad? Sure, a bit like that. After all, a lot of my work went to waste. Honestly, I admit that I expected it a little. That text was not brilliant, because it was written with a bit groping, while I had no contact with the promoter.

However, all this is not important. What is relevant is what I agreed and planned with her and that now I know what to do. A new vision has been created. The better one. The more reasonable one. Thanks to this, over the last week I wrote over 4 pages of a much better text. Little? It may seem like this, but I have in mind that there were days when I did not write anything at all and that I generally did not have much time this week.

Let's focus for a moment. What useful can we conclude from my desperate attempts to graduate? That there's no sense in dealing with what has already happened. What I wrote earlier is not very suitable for anything? All right. I wasted the time? All right. It has already happened and nothing can be done about it. Instead of losing the next moments to remembering the past, one must focus on the future and look at what can be done well. I know what actions I should take, what to write and I stick to that.

Look forward, not back. Only in this way we can do something important.

And the song for today is a polish hit from a few years ago. You can find it above.

That's all for today. Have a nice week!
